Dental Implants

The Implant Option

Implants are an excellent option for replacing one or more lost teeth. Implants look and feel as close to your natural teeth as possible. They are described as a replacement root with a crown placed on top. Implants are also used to hold dentures in place. Both front and back teeth are suitable for implants. Front teeth influence your appearance, therefore implants for the front teeth can be designed to give you a new look. Their mechanical function will be incorporated into their design by your clinician. Your back teeth are less important to your appearance, but their mechanical function is very important. As such, the implants and replica teeth are designed accordingly

implant1.jpgWhat is the procedure?

It is a two step process: implant placement followed by implant restoration.
The first step is fitting your titanium or titanium alloy implant ( often called implant placement) and the implant is left to fuse with the jaw bone. The second step is fitting the replica tooth/crown  to the implant ( also called implant restoration). For dentures, the second step involved fitting the dentures to the implants.

Who can carry out this procedure?

Many Lumino practices are experienced in the second step of the implant process which is implant restoration. That is, they will refer their patient to a another highly qualified dentist to place the implant, but the patient will then return to the original practice to have the replica tooth fitted to the implant.
